INAUGURAL SESSION: OCTOBER 19-24, 2026
Island Music's Youth String Project is a new program of the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council developed in collaboration with the nationally renowned University of Texas at Austin String Project. This initiative provides access to NO-COST beginning violin instruction, ensemble learning, mentorship, and public performance opportunities for area youth while creating long-term community music infrastructure. Program components include:
・No-cost access to instruments and instruction during the residency and online instruction period
・Suzuki-based learning with active family participation
・Artist faculty and graduate student instructors from the University of Texas-Austin Butler School of Music
・Continuing online lessons after the residency (duration TBD)
・A regional pathway towards string education and ensemble playing
