Youth String Project
WHO
• The Youth String Project serves youth in Ketchikan Gateway Borough and Metlakatla and is intended primarily for students aged 9-16.
• Students must be large enough (primarily arm length, not height) to comfortably hold either a full or 3/4 size instrument. Though violin sizing is not an exact science, students generally must have a left arm span of at least 21 inches to comfortably play a 3/4 size violin (the smallest we have available). Please see the form below for measurement instructions.
WHERE
• Classes are held at the Main Street Gallery (330 Main Street, Ketchikan, AK 99901).
WHEN
• Classes will be at 5PM and 6:30 PM, Monday-Friday, during the week of OCT 19th. Younger students will be assigned to the 5PM session, older students to the 6:30PM session. The week will culminate in a performance for friends/family on Saturday, October 2th at 11:30 AM at the Main Street Gallery.
DETAILS
• Instruments and materials are provided FREE-OF-CHARGE (with completed rental agreement/see below) for the initial residency and follow-up period (duration TBD).
• For students 12 and under, at least one parent/guardian must attend ALL classes and the community performance with their student (parents/guardians learn alongside students, assisting with practice). For students 13 and older, parent/guardian attendance is not required but strongly encouraged!
• Students must arrive at least 10 minutes early to all activities and attend ALL classes + the performance during Youth String Project week.
