Open Craft Night at the Totem Heritage Center

Open Craft Night is back at the Totem Heritage Center!
Join them on Tuesdays from 6-9:00pm and bring your weaving, regalia, and design projects to work in the company of fellow Northwest Coast artists and students.

**Woodshop access will NOT be available in October and November due to renovations.**

Beginning/Intermediate Cedar Bark Weaving with Holly Churchill

Mon, Wed, Thursday & Friday 5:30-8:30 pm Sun 10 am-4:30 pm ($225) Materials up to $175

Holly Churchill will instruct beginning students in learning and practicing foundational Tlingit and Tsimshian cedar bark weaving methods. Students will learn basic twining and other techniques foundational to cedar bark weaving. This class counts toward a Certificate of Merit in Weaving and is a prerequisite for all upper-level weaving classes.

Registration for Fall classes opens at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. You are welcome to register via phone (907.225.5900), email, or stop by the Totem Heritage Center.

Arts Report on KRBD

Each week at approximately 8:20 am KRBD hosts the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council for their weekly report on arts and humanities in Ketchikan and the surrounding area. Get a synopsis of the local music scene, performances, Gallery exhibits, pop-ups, and Calls to artists. The Arts Report often features special guests from the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, Artists, and Curators. Tune in weekly to KRBD 105.3 FM Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Saxman, 107.1 FM North Ketchikan, Ward Cove, and Ketchikan, 101.7: Craig, 90.7: North Point Higgins, 90.1: Mountain Point, Hydaburg, Klawock, and Thorne Bay.

Skin Sewing with Louise Kadinger

Learn to sew skins!

Sealaska Heritage, in partnership with Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC), will sponsor an in-person, hand skin-sewing workshop in Ketchikan with teacher Louise Kadinger from Nov. 3-6 Thursday & Friday 5-8:30 pm, Saturday & Sunday 9am - 5:30 pmSpace is limited.

$100 fee covers a sea otter hide at a $350 value, as well as patterns, supplies, and instruction. Scholarships are available through KIC. Flyer: https://bit.ly/3CyRQXM

ELIGIBILITY
In accordance with the Marine Mammal Protection Act, use of sea otter hide is limited to those with 1/4 Alaska Native blood quantum or greater and with a copy of their Certificate of Indian Blood issued by the Bureau of Indian Affairs or Tribal I.D. card issued by a federally recognized Alaska Native Tribe.

Join the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center for the OFFICIAL PREMIERE of the Award-Winning Ketchikan-Produced Short Film, “The Ladder!”
On Saturday, November 5th at 11:30 AM, come down to the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center Theater to watch “The Ladder” and other Alaskan-produced films, followed by a presentation by Writer-Director, Emilio Miguel Torres, on the next feature-length evolution of the project in 2023. The event will conclude with a reception.
