INSERT ART 2026-27 Residency Application

2026-2027 [INSERT ART] Residency Application

[INSERT ART] is Ketchikan's first immersive incubator for local, emerging artists.

The mission of this program is to empower emerging artists by providing dedicated studio and gallery space, and access to resources, and mentorship. This collaborative environment encourages artists to share ideas, take creative risks, and grow together.

In 2026 [INSERT ART] has moved to the Tobin Building on Dock Street in collaboration with Historic Ketchikan. Over it's lifetime the building has had many iterations, one of which was the "Morning Raven Art Studio"!!!

Applications will be accepted to participate in the 2026-27 [INSERT ART] Residency until August 14th.

The 2026-2027 [INSERT ART] Residency will begin in September 1, with artists moving in, meeting each other, and getting settled. There will be a "Meet and Greet" of the new Cohort on October 2nd during the ARTober Art Walk. The Residency will continue through April of 2027 and may include a handful of open studio events or classes. Artist can expect to have professional development courses, studio space, and other opportunities for exposure as an artist. The Residency will conclude with an "Open Studio" showcasing the Cohorts' work. The Cohort will then that the month of May to remove their equipment.

Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions!

Applicant Artistic Statement and Goals

An artist's statement should convey to the viewer of your work a sense of why you create. Perhaps what you hope to express, and how the mediums you use help you to be expressive. The statement might include your inspirations, and your aspirations. Your statement should be brief, and should be no more than 500 words. Below is a link to an in-depth article of artist statements, how to create one, and why they are important.

The [INSERT ART] program is designed for emerging artists as an opportunity to learn and grow in your chosen medium (or to explore new mediums!). We do not expect your artist bio to be extensive and richly voluminous. However, it will be helpful to know how you have come by your current level of artistry (undergrad, grad, post doc, education / school of hard knocks, mentorship, etc.), and if you have actively been making an effort to grow as an artist.

Below is a template for a standard bio. However, please feel free, as an artist who may or may not have previous exhibition and educational experience, to include your influences whatever they may - and examples of your accomplishments that will let us know you have the ability to follow through on your commitment to the growth as an artist, and the tenacity to work through the inevitable challenges and struggles that occur when a person evolves.
