Voice on the Land - Teaching Artist Apprenticeship 2025-2026

Applications are open to Alaska Native artists, located in Southeast Alaska. The ideal Teaching Artist Apprentice will have an interest in learning about Southeast Alaska Native languages, culture, and Northwest Coast Arts, as well as have a high school diploma.

Selected apprentices will join Teaching Artists for artist in residencies in Juneau, Ketchikan, Yakutat, Craig and Klawock. The residencies will take place in the elementary schools, working with 4th and 5th grade students.

Apprentices should commit to the following program timeline:

Year 1 - September 2025 - May 2026
Year 2 - August 2026 - May 2027
Summer camps and training opportunities

PLEASE NOTE: Apprenticeship hours are not full-time. Hours will be dependent on residency schedules and trainings. From September 2025 - May 2026, the apprentice will assist with up to 5 residencies. Each residency is 8 hours/day for two-three weeks. SHI will cover the cost of airfare and lodging, as well as provide a travel stipend.

Voices on the Land is a grant funded Arts & Literacy Integration program that provides cultural, literacy, and arts experiences to 2nd - 8th grade students, as well as professional learning opportunities and pathways for educators and artists
