“The Individual Artist Awards are a celebration of the rich culture and diversity of Alaska,” said Rasmuson Foundation President/CEO Gretchen Guess. “Supporting artists is an investment in our community and economy. We’re pleased to reintroduce these awards with a new approach.”

Project Awards are now open. The Foundation is accepting applications through June 9, 2025. This year, Rasmuson Foundation will grant up to 50 project awards of $10,000 each. Project Awards are short-term projects that clearly benefit the artist and their development. These awards are open to all career stages.

Fellowship will open in 2026 and will continue to open in alternate years of Project Awards. Up to 20 Fellowships of $25,000 will be awarded to mid-career or mature artists. These awards are flexible funds for artists to advance their creative practice.

Distinguished Artist Award nominations closed in March. This award will open yearly, recognizing creative excellence and significant artistic accomplishments. It is a one-time award of $50,000.

“The Individual Artist Awards is a highly competitive program. Each year, we receive hundreds of well-qualified applicants,” said Chris Perez, Rasmuson Foundation vice president of programs. “Separating project and fellowship awards into alternating years means that we can help more artists by award type each cycle.”

Since 2003, the program has invested more than $6.5 million in supporting the career development of Alaskan artists. Artists living in Alaska at every career stage are encouraged to learn more about these awards at Rasmuson.org where they can find program guidelines, eligibility criteria, FAQs, and an online application. Awarded artists must wait three years before applying for a new Individual Artist Award.

The application period for Project Awards is April 7 through June 9, 2025, and awards will be announced in late 2025. Fellowships will open in 2026. The 2025 Distinguished Artist award will be announced this fall.
