Miniature Painting Lessons
Gateway Games is hosting a series of painting sessions, focused on painting one miniature character each session. We will assign characteristics and skills to the character based on characteristics of the item.
Painting skills will be some color work with base coating, inking, and dry brushing.
Academic Skills will include: Creative and Imaginative Thinking, Imagining and developing artistic ideas and work as well as Interpret and share artistic work.
SEL skills will include Responsible Decision Making, Social Awareness, and Relationship Skills. Age level of the class is 5-12, adults are requested to stay with children during the class.
At the end of the four sessions, there will be a tournament where we put our miniatures through a series of contests and activities.
Each session will cost 10$, If a student is unable to make all 4 prep sessions, they will be able to participate in some aspects of the tournament

Arts Report on KRBD
Each week at approximately 8:20 am KRBD hosts the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council for their weekly report on arts and humanities in Ketchikan and the surrounding area. Get a synopsis of the local music scene, performances, Gallery exhibits, pop-ups, and Calls to artists. The Arts Report often features special guests from the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, Artists, and Curators. Tune in weekly to KRBD 105.3 FM Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Saxman, 107.1 FM North Ketchikan, Ward Cove, and Ketchikan, 101.7: Craig, 90.7: North Point Higgins, 90.1: Mountain Point, Hydaburg, Klawock, and Thorne Bay.

47th Annual Blueberry Arts Festival!!!!
The Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council's Annual Blueberry Arts Festival is always the first weekend of August. 2022 will be the 47th Blueberry Arts Festival in downtown Ketchikan, AK.
The Festival kicks off Friday with the Pet and Doll Parade, continues with the opening of the Blueberry Arts Festival Art Exhibit, and the Best Blueberry Dish Contest at the Main Street Gallery. The Festival continues on Saturday with artist booths, slug races, music on the Mainstage, pie eating, and more! Sunday finishes up the Festival with the Annual Handmade Human Powered Blueberry Boat Race in Thomas Basin, and the Blueberry Poetry Slam at the New York Cafe.
Check back for more details as we get it all organized for another fabulous Blueberry Arts Festival!!!!

Blueberry Pet and Doll Parade!
Every year, the 3-day Blueberry Arts Festival starts with a Parade! The CUTEST Parade in town!!! The Pet and Doll Parade! Bring your favorite pet or doll or both! Dress up, dress them up! And this year a prize is given to the most FESTIVE MASK!!!! Fun fun fun!!! Free to all! Appropriate for all ages! Youngsters and their parents adorn wagons, pets, and dolls and parade down Main Street! Get creative, have fun, make a matching one for your doll or teddy bear, decorate your wagon, and bring a friend with four legs......! Don't have kids, dolls, or pets? Enjoy the cutest parade in town from the sidewalks of Main Street!
Best Blueberry Dish Contest
Practice, Practice, Practice those delish blueberry dishes! Bring in your dish by 3:00 pm sharp to get it judged against the rest of Ketchikan. Prizes for First, Second, and Third!
Rules for the Best Blueberry Arts Festival Blueberry Dish…
• Dishes are due to the arts council – ready to serve before 3 pm on Friday, August 5th, Doors are locked at 3:00 for Judging!!!
• Must provide 4 servings, of up to two recipes will be accepted.
• Your dish may be savory or sweet.
• Your dish should make a recipe that will allow for 3 sample servings.
• The predominant flavor profile must be…BLUEBERRIES!!!
• The dish must be an original recipe OR your own personal adaptation of a recipe.
• The winning dish will be featured on the specials menu for the month of August at the New York Cafe.
Opening Reception - "Blueberry Arts Festival Art Exhibit"
Join us for the Opening Reception of the "46th Annual Blueberry Arts Festival Art Exhibit". This annual open-call exhibit features new works from the whole community working in any medium. Main Street Gallery openings are always the first Friday of the month and are free and open to the public.
"Cherchez La Femme" by Elizabeth Belanger Exhibit opening!
Cyrano's Art Gallery in Anchorage presents Cherchez La Femme by Elizabeth Belanger. The opening is August 5th from 5-7, this exhibit will run until August 28th on Thursdays and Fridays from 12-4p and during all performances.
Lumberjack Show Fundraiser and Live Music
Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show Fundraiser on August 5th!!! A perilous competition between the VFW/American Legion and the Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad. Watch and cheer them on while they compete with their lumberjack teammates to win the Community Show Trophy last seen in 2019! The competition will start at 7 pm, admission is a minimum donation of $5, and all proceeds will go to the Special Olympics. Afterward, there will be a bar and Woody’s Finest Hour playing from 8:30-10 pm! Come join us for Competition, Fun, and Live Music!”

The Ketchikan Running Club is hosting the Blueberry Fun Run. Registration opens at 8 am, 1- mile children's run and 5K walkers start at 9 am, and the 5K and 10K runners begin at 9:30 am.

Metlakatla Founders Day Celebration
The Metlakatla Founders Day Celebration!
On an August 7 about 130 years ago, a group of 826 Tsimshian people from British Columbia followed William Duncan, an Anglican missionary, over the Canadian border to Annette Island.
Now Annette Islands Reserve is Alaska’s only Indian reservation, and, ever since that day in 1887, the Metlakatla Indian Community has celebrated its unique founding story.
In 2018 Founders Day will be preceded by a feast presented by the Wolf Clan on August 4th. On August 7th, Founders Day begins at 9 am with a marathon, then a parade and field events. The Hot Dog Feast is from 5 to 6 pm, and fireworks will be at 10:30 pm.
Food booths and a few artist booths will be open on the field. More artist booths will be open in the Artist Village.
The Ferry will be running to Metlakatla for Founders Day!!!
