A collection of dynamic oil paintings featuring fantastic animals from ancient literature!

Animals of all kinds have fascinated Danelle since childhood, and it was natural for her to meld her interest with a burgeoning passion for making art. Each piece employs Danelle's powerful use of color. The vibrant compositions are intended to bring the viewer a deeper understanding or a fresh perspective on each animal she brushes onto the canvas.

Each week at approximately 8:20 am KRBD hosts the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council for their weekly report on arts and humanities in Ketchikan and the surrounding area. Get a synopsis of the local music scene, performances, Gallery exhibits, pop-ups, and Calls to artists. The Arts Report often features special guests from the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, Artists, and Curators. Tune in weekly to KRBD 105.3 FM Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Saxman, 107.1 FM North Ketchikan, Ward Cove, and Ketchikan, 101.7: Craig, 90.7: North Point Higgins, 90.1: Mountain Point, Hydaburg, Klawock, and Thorne Bay.

The library is hosting a reading by Alaskan poet and UAS Professor Emily Wall at 6:00 pm. She will be reading poems from her new collection "Breaking Into Air". What is the Gigglefeet Dance Festival?

The Gigglefeet Dance Festival is a community celebration of dance

co-sponsored by the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, First City Players, and Ketchikan Area Arts & Humanities Council.

The mission of the Festival is to:

Strengthen the dance community.
Provide performance opportunities for both emerging and established dancers, choreographers, and technical theater personnel in the greater Ketchikan area.
Provide a venue for the works of adult dancers and choreographers.
Provide a supportive environment for a diversity of dance forms, including works that are provocative and challenging.
Encourage participation and appreciation of dance, for artists and audiences alike, by presenting a broad variety of dance forms.
The Gigglefeet Dance Festival usually takes place on the Friday and Sunday surrounding the Blueberry Arts Festival, which always takes place the first weekend in August.

Open Call to Artists for the Prince of Wales Island Wide Arts Extravaganza & Exhibit Event
Saturday, July 23rd 2022 at the Thorne Bay School Gym

Submit Exhibit registration by July15th 2022.

We invite YOU to be a part of the 3rd exhibit July 23rd 2022. It is open to artist on Prince of Wales. Due to space restrictions we must limit it to 100 artists. The Art Extravaganza will take all necessary steps for this large, indoor event to mitigate the risks to artists and audience members of the Covid-19 disease, potentially including requiring mask wearing, limiting capacity, traffic flow patterns, and spacing.

ELIGIBILITY: Submissions must be original, creative, one of a kind artwork and made by artist on Prince of Wales island. All artwork must be designed and executed by the exhibiting artist; collaborative pieces may be submitted. Art will require artist signature, and would be returned.

ENTRY FEES: $25.00 PAYABLE: KAAHC/POW Arts Extravaganza & Exhibit

ENTRY DEADLINE: All art must be received to Gretchen Klein by Friday, July 22nd 2022 at Thorne Bay School District Gym Art Exhibit location.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES: Artists may submit up to two entries. Bring businesses cards to pass out.

SALES: Art may be priced to sell, artist is responsible for transaction with seller as well as organizing transport or pick up after 5:00 pm on day of event. It is not recommended to release artwork to buyer without payment.

OPENING RECEPTION: Artists are encouraged to attend the reception 1PM-4PM Saturday, July 23rd 2022 at the Thorne Bay School Gym.

ARTWORK RETURNS AND PICK-UP: Local artists can pick up their work starting at 5:00pm on Saturday, July 23rd 2022.

INSURANCE: Artists are responsible for insuring their work during transit to and from the Art Show. Your work will be treated with respect and care. The KAAHC is not responsible for damage due to circumstances beyond reasonable control.

Shibori resist dyeing technique Class

Are you interested in learning to do Shibori resist dyeing? Mary Mortenson (a fiber artist and friend of Jean Bartos) and Kay Kirscht (all-around artist), are making their first trip to Alaska. Thanks to your generous local host, Jean, a two day workshop is offered July 15-16, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Total cost is $150 which includes all materials. Fee is non-refundable, no cancellations allowed. If you can't come, please find someone to take your place! Sign up by contacting Jean. Class size is limited to 5.
