Illustrating Alaska Artists Making Children's Books (Online)
Ketchikan artist Evon Zerbetz, along with Jim Fowler, Michaela Goade, and Mitchell Watley, will be featured in this Alaska State Museum exhibit!!! The physical exhibit will be on display at the State Museum February 5th 4:30 pm through April 3, 2021. Yippee!!!!
A new exhibit at the State Museum explores the colorful and intriguing process of illustrating children’s books. The exhibit, curated by Sarah Asper-Smith, highlights the process of four different Alaskan illustrators: Jim Fowler, Evon Zerbetz, Michaela Goade, and Mitchell Watley. Each has a unique perspective on creating illustrations for a children’s book.
The opening of Illustrating Alaska: Artists Making Children’s Books is online February 5, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at https://lam.alaska.gov/illustrating-alaska. The physical exhibit will be on display at the State Museum from February 5th through April 3, 2021.
Illustrating Alaska is presented by Exhibit AK and the Alaska State Museum, with support from: the Alaska State Libraries, Friends of the Alaska State Library, Archives, and Museum; Alaska Litho; Sealaska Heritage Institute - Baby Raven Reads program; Alaska Robotics; Lucid Reverie; Rainy Retreat bookshop; and Hearthside Books

Exhibit Opening "Art in the Time of the Face Mask"
This is an exhibit of art submissions answering the call to create face masks and face mask art from the functional to the fantastical!!!
The exhibit is in Quarantine and available for viewing in-person through the Front Vestibule windows of the Main Street Gallery from February 5th at 5:00 pm through February 26th at 5:00 pm. The online Main Street Gallery' of the exhibit will be available at 5:30 pm

Ketchikan Running Club Call to Artist Deadline
Call to local artists! The Ketchikan Running Club is launching a new event for 2021 and needs a logo/sticker! Media requirements include round or square 4x4 inch design in PDF or jpeg format. Sticker design submission will be open from January 15th and DUE February 15th in order to work on printing your design before summer! The artist selected for the sticker design will win $100 cash prize & awesome bragging rights! Please email submissions to Ktnrunningclub@gmail.com with the subject Tongass Treks Art.
Rasmuson Foundation Individual Artist Awards Deadline for Paper Applications!
Project Awards and Fellowships are designed to provide artists living and working in Alaska the resources to concentrate and reflect on their work, to immerse themselves in a creative endeavor, and to experiment, explore and develop their artistry more fully.
In addition to individual artists, groups and collaboratives — two or more artists working together — are eligible for Project Awards and Fellowships. A musical band, a dance company and a multimedia collective are some examples.
New this year: Paper applications must be delivered or postmarked by Feb. 15 to allow processing time. The deadline for online applications is March 1 at 11:59 p.m.

Thursday, March 4 at 12:00 PM for a VIRTUAL Museum Midday panel discussion with Ketchikan Daily News Photojournalists Hall Anderson, Taylor Balkom, and Dustin Safranek.
Photographs tell stories and create a visual record of our community, contributing further layers of meaning to our collective history. Ketchikan has been fortunate to have such extraordinary photojournalists documenting our everyday goings-on, which benefit us as well as future generations.

Ketchikan Community Chorus
Rehearsals will start Thursday, January 14th at 7:00 PM
Following their previous safety protocols and having in-person and zoom meetings/rehearsals every week. If the community risk level increases they will switch to Zoom rehearsals only.
Practicing the Messiah, Judi Green will be the accompanist for rehearsals this spring.

Jeanette Sweetman is having a Pop-Up art sale at the New York Cafe! Original oil paintings, watercolors, figure drawings, charcoal, even some linocut prints, and intaglio etchings. Many of these have never been seen :) There are even some tiny Ketchikan landscape oil paintings, giclee prints, art cards, and stickers available, too. There's something for everyone and every budget. It will be a fabulous time!
