Winter Arts Faire
The Annual Winter Arts Faire is our winter companion to the Blueberry Arts Festival, where community members come to see and purchase artwork from local artists. Unlike the Blueberry Arts Festival, the 2-day Winter Arts Faire features only handcrafted fine art and crafts. In its 29th year, the Faire is held annually over the Thanksgiving weekend. Having reached maximum capacity for booth holders (and parking) at the Ted Ferry Civic Center and Cape Fox Lodge in downtown Ketchikan, KAAHC decided to move the Faire to the Saxman Community Center in 2017. The SCC offers more room for vendors, more parking, all the vendors are in one location, and a large portion of the population is able to visit the Village of Saxman and the Saxman Community Center. Additionally, with the help of First Bank, the Winter Arts Faire Sponsor, we are able to provide creative activities for young people at the Faire!!!

Sam Pitcher Memorial Scholarship Concert
Seming “Sam” Pitcher (1987-2003) was a gifted young man who was active in the various music programs available in Ketchikan. Sam loved all kinds of music and played the trumpet, flugelhorn and electric guitar. In 2003, with donations in excess of $10,000, his family and friends created a memorial scholarship fund in his name to award as The Sam Pitcher Music Scholarship. The goal of the Scholarship Fund is to provide scholarships to deserving Ketchikan youth to help them attend summer music camps or programs such as the ones Sam was able to attend. In 2013 a dedicated endowment fund was created to help sustain the scholarship fund in perpetuity.
The Sam Pitcher Memorial Scholarship Concert continues to funds every fall for scholarships for young Ketchikan musicians to attend summer music camps. Since the concerts began the Sam Pitcher memorial fund has given out 61 scholarships to young Ketchikan musicians.
New this year...scholarship applications for 2019 will be due December 1, 2018 with a mandatory audition in early December. Watch for applications to be available in early October.
The dedicated endowment fund exists with The Alaska Community Foundation. Donations to the Sam Pitcher Memorial Scholarship Fund endowment can be made at any time online through their link below.

Applications due: Sam Pitcher Music Scholarship
General Information
Awards starting at $500 will be provided to a Ketchikan youth(s) in grades 7 - 12 for use at a summer music program. This is a merit based scholarship. Awards will be paid directly to the program in the name of the applicant. Awards will be based on the applicant’s musical ability, goals, and motivation. It is the applicant’s responsibility to research programs and provide requested information to the selection committee.
This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Seming “Sam” Pitcher, a gifted young man who was active in the various music programs available in Ketchikan. Sam loved all kinds of music. He especially enjoyed playing and listening to music with his friends. Sam played the trumpet, flugel horn and electric guitar with the McPherson Jazz Bands, the rock group “The Rubber Band,” and the KHS Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. He had the opportunity to attend both the Sitka Fine Arts Camp and Interlochen Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. The experiences gained while participating in these camps were very significant for Sam. The goal of the Sam Pitcher Music Scholarship is to help give other young musicians the opportunity to expand their music horizons by attending similar summer music programs.
