Call to Artists - URSA MAJOR Grants

The Ursa Major Fund provides grants to Alaska artists and artist collectives to foster the development and presentation of artist-led, risk-taking, public-facing projects that inspire curiosity, engagement, dialogue and respect for cultural integrity. The call for applications opens September 1 and closes October 31 annually.

Fifteen grants are provided each year at the following levels:

Spark: Six $1000 grants for smaller engagements.
Shine: Six $4000 grants for mid-size projects.
Nova: Three $10,000 grants for a larger scale public engagement projects.

Eligibility:
- Artists and culture bearers who define Alaska as home.
- For collaborative projects, the artist who submits the proposal serves as the Lead Applicant. The Lead Applicant and a majority of collaborators should define Alaska as home.
- Applicants must have a valid social security number to receive payment.
- Artists and culture bearers who are over 18 years old.

Artists MUST attend an information session prior to application.

Statewide Info Sessions are held by Zoom monthly from July through September. Info sessions will cover application guidelines and answer questions.

2025 Statewide Info Sessions will be held:

August 25th, 5pm
September 29th, 5pm

This grant is administered by the Bunnell Street Arts Center.
