Art and Cultural Facilities

Saxman Community Center

The Saxman Community Center is a 30,000 square foot facility which serves as a regional hub for Alaska Native arts and cultural events.  The exterior of the facility is adorned with a large cedar bear screen carved in 2010 by celebrated artist and Master Carver Nathan Jackson.  Within the facility, visitors will note the presence of early/mid 20th century painted panels featuring clan/family crests and traditional designs, a red cedar canoe, displays of historic photographs, and a mural created in 2011 by youth and children working with Seattle-based artist Andrew Morrison.

Location: 3 miles South of downtown Ketchikan.
