April 1-29, 2016: Among The Trees
Among The Trees
April 1-29, 2016
A solo mixed media installation by Portland, OR, artist Jennifer Kapnek.
Jennifer Kapnek is dedicated to painting what comes naturally to her, developing and stylizing in the place where her eyes and mind agree. She has given herself permission to explore, grow and unfold without a destination, in pursuit only of evolution.
Jennifer maintains a continued focus on trees. The independence, strength and calm. The action, reaching toward the sky, or across the air, while planted solid in the earth. The imperative balance between the limbs and the trunk. Their intimate relationships in nature. The tree as home, shelter, provider, as the Mother and the Father. The simple and divine. The tree, in the foreground and the background, leads her through our shared environment, from grasses to mountains, amongst the stars and the birds.
Inspired by color, Jennifer saturates the field with many layers of acrylic paint. Her paintings are on wood, primarily recycled. She consistently introduces three dimensional elements, rough or broken edges, branches and texture in her work.
Jennifer Kapnek’s work is purposefully uncomplicated, yet very intentional. She is driven by line, obsessed with the transition of color, and consumed by the honing and refining of her approach to detail. In her Main Street Gallery exhibit she will create an installation which will capture the elements of the changing seasons.
