 fiti several times\, the KAAHC Diversity and Inclusion Committee sought to
  understand how ART might\npositively transform the trail from a historica
 lly dangerous area for women and youth\, to something beautiful\, safe\, a
 nd celebratory. After walking the trail together\nand considering its plac
 e in the community\, the Committee determined the symbol of a canoe\, whic
 h requires everyone to pull together\, to be appropriate for the\nbasis of
  a new public art piece. \nThrough a public selection process in 2024\, lo
 cal Tlingit artist Rhonda Green was selected to create the Kichxáan Heéni 
 Canoe: “Yaakw Haash át wulihaash a d’ein óoxjaa” (Canoe Drifting in the Wi
 nd).\n\nThis project has been fully funded through grants.
