X-WR-CALDESC:Master Artist and Apprentice Grant\n\nThe purpose of the Maste
 r Artist and Apprentice in Traditional Native Art program is to support an
 d encourage the continuation of traditional art forms of Alaska Natives.\n
 \nAn individual may apply for a Master Artist and Apprentice (MAA) grant f
 or serious study with a recognized Master Artist in a traditional Alaska N
 ative art form. \n\nThe Apprentice to whom or on whose behalf the grant is
  made may use the grant to study any traditional Alaska Native art form\, 
 including visual arts\, crafts\, music\, dance\, storytelling\, and singin
 g.\n\nAn applicant for a Master Artist and Apprentice grant may request a 
 grant for up to $2\,000\, and the grant recipient is not required to provi
 de a match. A grant is limited to payment of the fees of the Master Artist
 \, and when necessary\, costs of supplies and travel essential to the Appr
 enticeship\, up to $500 of the total grant. If payment of a grant is appro
 ved\, the Council will pay to the Apprentice up to $500 for supplies and t
 ravel costs if needed\, and up to $1\,500 to the Master Artist for the ins
 truction and training they provide the Apprentice. If supplies and travel 
 costs are already covered\, the Master Artist can be paid a total of $2\,0
 00 for their instruction time\, knowledge\, and skills.\n\nTo qualify as a
 n Apprentice\, one must be a resident of the State\; be at least 18 years 
 of age\; have demonstrated experience in the traditional Alaska Native art
  form for which the individual proposes to serve as an apprentice\; must h
 ave located a Master Artist willing to accept the applicant as an Apprenti
 ce\, and may not be enrolled as a full-time student during the period of t
 he grant.\n\nThe Master Artist must provide evidence of the Master Artist’
 s own excellence in the traditional Alaska Native art form in which the gr
 ant applicant proposes to serve as an Apprentice\; must provide evidence o
 f recognition by members of the Master Artist’s cultural community for pro
 ficiency and skill in the traditional Alaska Native art form in which the 
 grant applicant proposes to serve as an Apprentice\; must agree to accept 
 the grant application as an Apprentice\; must be at least 18 years of age\
 ; and must be a resident of the State\, per state rules and regulations.\n
