 anding of the importance of traditional woven baskets and other woven obje
 cts within the local Native cultures. Beginner and intermediate instructio
 n in the making of a cedar basket.\n\nLEARNING OUTCOMES\nUpon successful c
 ompletion of this course\, students will be able to:\n• Weave prepared ced
 ar materials.\n• Learn the weaving terminology associated with weaving.\n•
  All students will two-way twine a basket and show progressive improvement
  in the preparation and techniques of weaving with cedar.\n• In the making
  of a basket\, students will implement two border stitches used at the tra
 nsition area and at the end of the basket.\n\nINSTRUCTOR\nDeborah Head\, o
 r Aanutein\, is a lifelong resident of Craig\, Alaska. She is the niece of
  Klawock Elder Dr. Bill Demmert\, Jr.\, and Native culture has always been
  at the center of her family’s life. The winner of a 2011 Rasmuson Fellows
 hip Award and a Smithsonian institution Visiting Artist participant\, Aanu
 tein is a highly regarded cedar bark weaver with award-winning pieces repr
 esented in museum collections as well as in private and cultural ownership
 .\n\nClass capacity: 12 participants\n\nRegistration Fee: $200 Payable dir
 ectly to SHI\, This includes the $150 supply fee. Scholarships are availab
 le through the Organized Village of Saxman.\n\nFor this workshop\, SHI pro
 vides prepared cedar for each participant as well as basic supplies to cre
 ate a basket.\n\nPrevious experience is not necessary to apply.\n\n**Prefe
 rence will go to persons who are members of the Organized Village of Saxma
 n.\n\n**Space is limited\, there are only 12 spots for this class. To conf
 irm your spot\, you must complete the application and pay the fee.\n\n***P
 lease note\, a completed application and payment will not secure your spac
 e in this class. A selection process will be completed upon reaching the a
 pplication deadline date. Students will be accepted and prioritized in the
