 to a Ketchikan youth(s) in grades 7 - 12 for use at a summer music program
 . This is a merit based scholarship. Awards will be paid directly to the p
 rogram in the name of the applicant. Awards will be based on the applicant
 ’s musical ability\, goals\, and motivation. It is the applicant’s respons
 ibility to research programs and provide requested information to the sele
 ction committee.\n\nThis scholarship was established to honor the memory o
 f Seming “Sam” Pitcher\, a gifted young man who was active in the various 
 music programs available in Ketchikan. Sam loved all kinds of music. He es
 pecially enjoyed playing and listening to music with his friends. Sam play
 ed the trumpet\, flugel horn and electric guitar with the McPherson Jazz B
 ands\, the rock group “The Rubber Band\,” and the KHS Wind Ensemble and Ja
 zz Band. He had the opportunity to attend both the Sitka Fine Arts Camp an
 d Interlochen Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. The experiences gained while par
 ticipating in these camps were very significant for Sam. The goal of the S
 am Pitcher Music Scholarship is to help give other young musicians the opp
 ortunity to expand their music horizons by attending similar summer music 
 programs.
