Board of Directors
Sonya Skan, Immediate Past President
For the past six years Sonya Skan has been dedicated to working with and inspiring youth. Her position with Ketchikan Indian Community as the Education and Training Deputy Director, coupled with her invaluable experience from working and living in the community, gave her the opportunity to develop and expand programs specifically for youth. Through KIC’s Tribal Youth and Tribal Scholars Programs, youth have unparalleled opportunities in education and cultural engagement. Watching youth grow and succeed in the programs–and in life– is a tremendous reward. In addition to her work with youth, Sonya has served on the Advisory Board and the Teacher Hiring Committee for PACE Charter School, and on the Board of Directors for Women in Safe Homes. Sonya is currently serving on the Boards of KAAHC and the Ketchikan Youth Court, and is an Advisory Board member for UAS Ketchikan. Sonya has worked with the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to develop prevention curriculum for the State of Alaska. When she isn’t dedicating time to these valuable programs, boards, and committees, she is a hardworking mother, wife, friend and community member!
