The Arts Council (KAAHC) was founded in 1953 and incorporated in 1970. It is a thriving, full-service local arts agency with the central purpose of fostering community arts. The Arts Council offers technical support to regional artists and arts organizations while fostering and providing a variety of arts-related programs and events for the residents of Southern S.E. Alaska. The City of Ketchikan has recognized the Arts Council as the official agency responsible for the advancement of the arts in Ketchikan. In 1996, the Arts Council received the Governor’s Award for the Arts in recognition of its “outstanding contributions which have increased the artistic excellence of Alaska.”
