Koi, by Grace Freeman, print, 2005. Opening reception May 5, 2006, from 5-8pm, on display through May 26.
Peda- what? That’s pĕd ′ə gŏg ′d. A verb meaning to learn from teaching; the reciprocity of knowledge between instructor and student- a word artificially spun from pedagogue, meaning teacher, for the purpose of this exhibit. University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan teachers and students alike will exhibit the fruits of being pedagogued throughout the month of May, in conjunction with the Celebration of the Sea Art Walk. Conceived by University Program Coordinator Marty West, this exhibit will showcase nearly 40 works by 15 campus students and 9 art instructors, including Mary Ida Henrickson, Rick Erdrick, Adell Bruns, Dave Rubin, MJ Turek, Chris Hanson, Patti DeAngelis, Shelley Stallings, and Pat Branco. A myriad of mediums, skills levels, and ages will be represented. For many of the students, this will be their first exhibit opportunity. Photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, stained glass, silversmithing, graphic design, scrimshaw, and Psanky students and teachers from the past school year, and years past, will contribute to the display.
