A Year of Drawing

An exhibition by Norman Campbell

March 5-26, 2010

The March exhibit at the Main Street Gallery features only one piece of art.

REALLY! Norman Campbell of Sitka has spent one year working on a single drawing on a grand scale- 52” x 30’. Working through a full cycle of seasons, Norman has interacted with a single work, creating an image that varies in detail and focus using pen and ink, and depending on his direction.

While it is one surface, and one final piece, one year brings about many changes in perspective, changes in ideas and interests, and we have the chance to see a record of not only a work’s progress but also of an artists transformation.

It is difficult for many of us to imagine devoting that kind of self-discipline and unwavering focus to any one thing. While many artists dedicate themselves to the images they create, we rarely see this kind of timeframe for a work in the modern era.

View the culmination of one year of drawing recorded in pen and ink on a single large-scale piece!
