Ketch-O-Matic

An Exhibit of Art Vending Machines

Art takes many forms: paintings, photographs, sculptures, and… vending machines? Artist Chris Hanson brings a new project to the Mainstay Gallery during the month of April: Local artists have been given the task of converting vending machines into works of art that will vend small handmade art items. That humble machine that is so used to dropping out manufactured chocolaty and greasy snacks now has the role of a lifetime… as something original, individual, even beautiful?

This show explores concepts of “high” vs. “low” art, of manufacturing vs. handmade objects, commercial vs. original, and of the value assigned to each. The goal of the Ketch-O-Matic project is to make affordable and locally-made art available to the public in a creative and unconventional format. All items in the machines will retail for $5.00 to $25.00.

Come by the Mainstay Gallery at 716 Totem Way to check out this unusual and highly creative show featuring local artists: Diane Palmer, Halli Kenoyer, Diane Naab, Ann Froeschle, Angel Jablonski, Katie Leese and Donald Varnell!
